Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort Hotel Review

Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is one of the best resort in Vietnam and also in the world (based on Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2018). I am really excited to come and experience it. At first, I was going to use my points for my stay here, but IHG points redemption was not available. So I decided to book through Mr & Mrs Smith instead, as I got a really great value for U$ 402/night with complimentary high tea for 2 people. When I checked out the menu, high tea will cost 1,199,000 VND++ per person (approximately U$ 60). Therefore, getting high tea of U$ 120 total was a really good deal for us as normally just the room it will cost around U$ 500 if I booked directly from the website.

When I got to the airport, I noticed that they have a special lounge by the baggage claim for guests, however I did not get the chance to check it out as I want to head out to the hotel as soon as possible.

To go to Intercontinental Danang from the airport, we booked a driver with private car, which costs about 350,000 VND (not much different from taking Grab). This is a really good deal compared to catching a cab or even Grab because the driver will be waiting for you when you came out so you save time. The ride was about 30 minutes from the airport and we passed Danang City on our way.

LOBBY AND CHECK IN PROCESS

Once we arrived in Intercontinental Danang, the staff were ready to welcome us and greet us. They asked us to wait in the reception lounge area and provided welcome drinks as they processed our check in. You could start enjoying the great view from this reception area (Heaven floor).

The check in process was not as smooth since they could not find our booking in the first place but they finally figured it out. The staff then explained to us the facilities they have and showed us the schedule of activities of the resort. Guests can choose some activities such as Yoga & Taichi class, Lantern making class, trekking trip, etc. I highly recommend you to check the schedule of the activities if you want to participate before making your reservation. We signed up for a morning Yoga session for the next day. We were also informed that there were shuttle buses running to Hoi An. For transportation within the resort we can call 0 anytime for buggy or we can use the funicular that is connecting all 4 levels: Heaven, Sky, Earth and Sea. Using the Stairway to Heaven is always going to be an option too 🙂

Intercontinental Danang provides buggy for its guests as transportation. We took the buggy to go to our room which was located in Sky 328. We got the classic Ocean View Room and the room was spacious for both of us. The bathroom is nice with the touch of Hann products and big bath tub to relax in.

AFTERNOON TEA

After settling down for a little bit, we decided to get our high tea since it was midday, staying out of the sun will be best at this time. The tea time was at the Citron and you can see all the furniture in the restaurant is in lime green and yellow color to match the name. We got little pieces of scones, bread and cakes. We can choose from many varieties of coffee and tea. To be honest, I was not impressed with the taste of the high tea. I don’t think it met my expectations for a 5 star hotel like this. At the Citron, guests can sit outside and enjoy the beach view as well from the cute pods.

BEACH AND POOL TIME

Right after high tea, it was good timing to check out the beach and the pool and this time we rode the funicular. The beach area is pretty big and the staff assisted us right away with a clean towel and water. From the beach you see the villas and building at all levels. Although we are not able to see the sunset directly, but we get some beautiful views of the sea and the sky.

Unfortunately, we could not get any spot for dinner at the famous La Maison 1888 but we were fine chillin at Long Bar. As an IHG member you get 2 welcome drinks at Long Bar which we can use and we just need to order some food. I love the fan swinging on the ceiling and the vibe this bar has. We ended the day after dinner so we can get up for early Yoga at the relaxing pavilion and checked out the Long pool one more time before we leave the resort.

Overall, I think the experience in this resort is really good. If you decide to stay here, 2 nights will be best probably to experience the most of it, but we did not have that much time as we want to explore BA Na Hills and Hoi An. If you want to explore BA Na Hills and see the hand bridge, renting a private car with driver will be the best option as the transportation arranged by the hotel is very pricey. If you want to grab lunch or dinner outside of the resort, I recommend going to Madam Hanh Restaurant as it provides really good Vietnamese food with cool atmosphere.
